What is Partial Hospitalization?
Partial hospitalization is a treatment option for teens that consists of five full days a week of therapeutic instruction and activities. Partial hospitalization is an ideal level of care for teens who have recently graduated from residential but still require daily structure and support. Teens in the Roots to Recovery partial hospitalization program benefit from daily psycho-educational groups, one supported meal per day, visits with a registered dietitian, 12-step groups, family therapy and up to three individual therapy sessions per week. The partial hospitalization program takes place in our cozy and colorful facility in Sherman Oaks, California.
Why Choose Partial Hospitalization?
Partial hospitalization is typically recommended for clients who have recently graduated from a higher level of care. It is also a good option for teens who are struggling on a day to day basis but are well enough to go home at the end of each day. If your child’s eating disorder is beginning to interrupt their day-to-day life, if schoolwork is beginning to suffer or if your child has recently lost or gained a significant amount of weight, it’s time to consider partial hospitalization.
If you are unsure of what level of care is best for your child, you are encouraged to call our admissions department at 888-476-9997 to complete a telephone pre-assessment. Our clinical team will review this assessment and recommend a level of care.
In What Ways Will I be Involved?
Roots to Recovery understands that when your child has an eating disorder, you need as much support as they do. Once your teen is enrolled in the partial hospitalization program you will be invited to participate in our weekly parent support groups. Parent support groups are an opportunity to learn the same skills your child is learning with us under the guidance of a clinician who knows your child and works with them on a regular basis.
You will also participate in family therapy with your child. These are private, hour long therapy sessions with your teen and his or her therapist wherein you will explore your relationship, heal broken bonds and learn to better communicate with and understand each other.
Advantages of Partial Hospitalization
The partial hospitalization program is designed to support your child throughout the day as they learn to face their fears, cope with distressing emotions and break their unhealthy habits and rituals around food. Your teen will have the opportunity to heal mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually and physically as they navigate through their own individualized treatment plan with our licensed clinicians and support staff. They will benefit from the support of the other teens in the program and encouragement from their peers who are further along in their treatment.
